Aulencia Castle stands on a hill in the corner formed by the confluence of the rivers Aulencia and Guadarrama.

It belongs to the municipality of Villanueva de la Cañada and next to is the European Space Astronomy Centre ( ESAC ) and urbanization Villafranca del Castillo, which owes its name to Castle Aulencia and takes the place of an old town of the same name . Also the castle is also known as Castillo de Villafranca.

Aulencia Castle is a small building consisting of a main body, a square, about 25 meters, with a keep 20 meters high. It is protected by a barbican with round towers.

The castle is of Arab origin and there is little documentary references to him. During the Civil War was used as a fort during the Battle of Brunete, so that the castle was attacked whose traces can be seen on the walls.

Currently owned by the Ballesteros family, which acquired it in 1918 and is located inside a fenced game preserve, which prevents close to its walls. However, a dirt road from the entrance to the ESAC, surrounds the castle hill, so you can view it from virtually anywhere.
