Allowed to take pictures in the Metro (Madrid and Bilbao)

Almost a year ago that eliminated the ban on taking pictures at the premises of ADIF (formerly of RENFE) without permission. Following this news, many complained that the Metro de Madrid did not happen the same.

My surprise was discovering that there really is no such prohibition ... or at least not existed for 25 years! Visiting the site today of the Association of Friends of the Madrid metro, Platform 1, I found a recent press report in which the 25th anniversary of the circular which removed the ban on taking pictures.

Actually I had already drawn attention to anywhere in the Passenger Regulations or other rules ancillary mentioned such a ban, but was unaware of this circular.

However, as they themselves complain, it seems that the employees of Metro, are very well informed, it is usual to stop taking pictures, and as always, citing security reasons .

Actually more or less is what is happening in ADIF, which despite its recent move is far more difficult still put some employees .

Without further ado, I leave you with the release of Platform 1 that, in compliance with their license, published in full without modification.

25-year-freedom-photographic

On February 2, 1984, the Company issued Madrid Metropolitan circular in expressly authorizing taking photographs on the premises of the Network, which is accessible to travelers. Today marks 25 years hence of this paper, which allows users to freely photograph stations and trains to the subway.

Since then, Metro has not issued any other circular regarding this matter. The permit therefore has not been repealed and remains in force today. This is supported from the Department of External Relations of the company, which recognizes that it is necessary to issue any permit for the taking of photographs by individuals.

The reality however is quite different. Fans are faced with serious difficulties in taking photographs, both by the attitude of the staff of companies in security , as part of Metro's own staff, ensuring that it is strictly forbidden to take pictures in the network facilities , contradicting the current round and the indications from the company.

In these situations, the amateur photographers feel treated like criminals, almost as if the cameras were guns, generating uncomfortable and unnecessary stress situations with staff that does not allow the use of them, claiming security concerns.

Platform 1 found that this problem must be solved urgently. Metro should properly inform its staff and the security contractors who are aware that taking pictures is expressly permitted and that the completion of this activity poses no danger for its facilities, its staff or users. The Association of Friends of the meter, the company proposes to issue a new circular that affects the values promoted earlier in 1984, so take a camera on a station does not be seen as a danger is not.

The Association encourages friends metro Metro de Madrid to follow the example of Metro de Bilbao, which in February 2006 issued an internal conversation in which he informed his staff that as of that date is not necessary for and patients are authorized to taking photographs and home videos in their facilities, recognizing the aesthetic appeal of the same and the interest
that citizens can have a souvenir of your visit.

Platform 1 recalls that shooting by individuals is permitted provided that the development of the activity does not involve inconvenience to passengers or alterations of the normal operation of the service. Yes please apply for a permit prior to Metro if the fan requires the use of accessories such as tripod or flash , or if the photographs are intended to illustrate publications or for commercial purposes. It also hopes that the encounters between staff and fans no longer occur, establishing an environment of collaboration and mutual respect.

February 2, 2009

In fact, it is Madrid who has to imitate Bilbao, but has been Bilbao who has followed the footsteps of Madrid 22 years later. But it would be wrong from time to time, emitieran circular "reminder" to ensure that everyone knows.

And today I speak of Platform 1, though it has nothing to do with the photographic subject, I can not recommend the link to download its integrated transport plan, which have maintained the aesthetics of the old map of the Metro and added all new stations, light rail, tram and RENFE lines. Simply perfect.

In Bilbao you do not always take pictures of the employees without their consent. Although occasionally, I still encounter with "seguratas" you can not say. Just have to inform them ...

    2. OscarG says:

Thanks for the info Marta, supposed to have any such case.

As employees, you really can not photograph anyone without your permission, whether or not the Metro, subject to certain specified exceptions. That I mention this another entry: http://lucesyfotos.es/blog/104/breve-guia-legal-para-fotografos

    3. Honors says:

seguratas not called, are called vigilantes and fulfill orders as cualquiier another job, I am vigilant and I like taking pictures but I can train but that is a bag ordinance and not hassle me, have a little respect to Marta time to call security officer in a derogatory manner, if not too much trouble.

    4. Luke says:

Security officer is not derogatory. It is as derogatory as calling "boy" to a "child". It is a popular and urban adaptation. Like the "gates", the "hands", the "tree", etc. etc. etc..
And sure many seguratas boy tell men of 25 years, right? You can not deny it.
Another thing is that you have earned the contempt, perhaps because of some not all, dealing in a very derogatory to those who must care for.
Respect is not imposed, is earned. And if you have failed to earn it, something will. The uniform, as in the case of superheroes, it empowers you, gives you responsibilities.
On the other hand, YN, do not mess around, you can take all the pictures you want, no ordinance that prohibits it, but a security officer yours mate the other day I banned it in Airport T4 Station. One more, probably bad orders.
But if I refuse to heed the bundle me another 4 seguratas?
